Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art is the Artists' House, and the close connection with the artists is an aspect, which is also reflected in our book selection. The majority of the publications we sell are therefore produced by artists or artist-run publishing houses. The books either have a specific relevance to the exhibitions, or they have been selected because of their relevance in a larger artistic perspective.

At Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art we do not regard art books as merely platforms for communicating art, but as books which often form an independent artistic expression.
In addition to selling books by well-established artists, we consider it a priority to be able to offer a range of experimental publications by less known artists. We offer a wide selection of  publications by publishing houses such as Asterisk, Pork salad Press, Space Poetry, ARK, Hurricane Publishing and Emancipa(t/ss)ionsfrugten from Denmark, as well as foreign publishers such as Spesial Nord, A Shoal of Mackerel, Spector Books, Aki Books, Feil Forlag and Making Do. In their own specific way, they all challenge the common notion of how an art book or an art publication is to be shaped.

With this particular selection of publication,we wish to present an intriguing insight into the contemporary art world seen from the perspective of the artists themselves.

All the books, which we sell, are also available to everyone in our book archive, which is situated at the back of the building. Here you can read and look in a continuously growing collection of artistic publications.
